    2 men who died in plane crash south of EAA AirVenture Oshkosh grounds identified. Here’s what we know.

    OSHKOSH – A man from Texas and a man from Tennessee have been identified as the two casualties of Monday’s plane crash that happened 2 miles south of the EAA AirVenture Oshkosh grounds at Wittman Regional Airport.

    The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office identified the men Wednesday as Sean Tommervik, 37, of El Paso, Texas, and James Sullivan, 32, of Nashville.

    Both men died after a plane went down in a farm field in the town of Nekimi and was immediately engulfed in flames.

    What do we know about the deceased?

    In a statement to the press, the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office said Tommervik was the owner of the plane, reported to be a Lancair Super ES with the registration No. N18BG.

    Tommervik recently moved to Philadelphia.

    The release said Sullivan had recently moved to Brooklyn, New York.

    The statement did not identify who was flying the plane.

    What do we know about the crash?

    Agronomist Dennis Klumpers was working in a soybean field when he heard a “pop” and turned over his shoulder to see the plane engulfed in flames.

    He immediately called the owner of the field, Brian Bradley, who dialed 911 for help.

    Klumpers didn’t see anyone get out of the aircraft and heard no shouts for help.

    In a previous release, the sheriff’s office said the crash, reported to be in the area of Old Knapp Road and Nekimi Avenue, was reported by the air traffic control tower at Wittman Regional Airport at 12:15 p.m. July 22.

    Crews from the sheriff’s office, Oshkosh Fire Department, Nekimi Fire Department and First Responders, Van Dyne Fire Department, Wisconsin State Patrol and members of the National Transportation Safety Board responded to the scene, where they discovered the plane was fully engulfed in fire.

    What was the cause of the crash?

    The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board.

    No further information has been released.
