Four student-athletes from the Osseo/Park Center co-op lacrosse teams represented the area last week in the 2024 Lacrosse Captain’s Cups, held by HomeGrown Lacrosse at the URW Dome at the University of Minnesota campus.

The Captain’s Cup Showcase, which is split into two events for boys and girls, works to educate and celebrate those athletes tasked with key leadership roles within their teams ahead of the upcoming 2024 spring season.

The OPC girls team was represented by Lauren Rainerson, Husaina Bah, Sophia Jermstad and Chloe Lamothe while the OPC boys team was represented by Omar Knighten and Jamison Adams. OPC players were part of the North team, which also featured players from Grand Rapids/Greenway, Moorhead, Rogers, Monticello, Elk River, Hermantown/Proctor and Chisago Lakes.

Players from every high school program in the state are nominated by their coaches to play the cup’s regional teams. Players compete in showcase-style competitions and take part in on-field leadership training throughout the day.

The girls tournament included a keynote speaker Lizzie Colson, a professional lacrosse player with Athletes Unlimited Pro and Team USA. Colson played collegiate lacrosse at the University of Maryland.

The boys tournament included Jules Heningburg, who currently plays professional men’s lacrosse in the Premier Lacrosse League. He is a three-time all-star and a co-founder of the Black Lacrosse Alliance.

The OPC girls lacrosse team opens play on April 13, hosting Moorhead at Osseo High School. The OPC boys lacrosse team opens their season on April 15, hosting Maple Grove at Park Center High School.
