The Osseo Legion Post 172 baseball team is gearing up for the sub-state playoffs that begin next week. Osseo handled Blaine and Coon Rapids before playing in the weekend tournament in Anoka.

Osseo had an up-and-down weekend, going 2-3 during the tournament. They lost games to Box Elder and Stillwater and Anoka. They beat opponents from Willmar and Northwest and are now 11-8 after the tournament.

On July 10, Osseo shutout Blaine 3-0. Eli Larson pitched six shutout innings with nine strikeouts. Joe Capra earned the save with a shutout inning to end the game.

Osseo opened the scoring with two runs in the fourth and added an insurance run in the fifth.

Tyler Rose delivered a two-out RBI single that scored Cooper Skov after Logan Partanen scored on an error earlier in the inning. Brenden Kranz scored Jorda Sivoravong with an RBI double an inning later as Osseo won 3-0.

A day later, Osseo jumped on Blaine early and held on for an 8-2 victory. As the away team, Osseo plated five runs in the second inning and it was smooth sailing from there.

Partanen scored the first run on an error. Brayden Haag and Rose had back-to-back RBI groundouts that made it 3-0. Eli Larson stole home and Sivoravong stole home later that inning to make it 5-0.

Skov earned the win on the mound after 4.2 shutout innings with 6 ks. Gavyn Krzoska pitched the final 2.1 innings out of the pen and struck out three.

Osseo opened the Anoka tournament with an 8-1 loss to Box Elder on July 12 and lost their first game on Saturday 5-0 to Stillwater. Later on Saturday, Osseo survived a late Willmar rally to win 9-8.

Willmar took a 2-0 lead after one inning but Osseo answered with four in the top of the second. Both teams scored once in the third and fifth and Osseo broke the game open with three in the sixth. They led 9-4 entering the bottom of the seventh and Willmar cut it to one before a fly ball ended the game.

Haag (W) allowed four runs (two earned) in six innings with eight punchouts. Sivoravong pitched the seventh and allowed four runs (one earned) with one k.

Skov, Larson, Krzoska, Quincy Standal and Rose all had doubles in the game. Rose and Partanen both drove in two runs. Sivoravong, Larson and Standal also had RBIs. Gavin Phenow went 3-for-4 at the plate with a run.

Sunday started with a 12-8 win over Northwest but ended with a 4-3 loss to Anoka. Skov (W) went the distance in game one with six strikeouts. He allowed eight runs (five earned) off of nine hits, two walks and five Osseo errors.

Haag, Kranz, Phenow and Partanen all had doubles. Sivoravong had three hits and two RBI. Haag, Krzoska, Partanen and Johnson all had multiple hits.

Larson (L) went the distance against Anoka. He allowed four runs (one earned) off of seven hits, two walks with seven strikeouts. Skov went 1-for-3 with two RBI and Krzoska had an RBI double.
