ST. PAUL—The League of Minnesota Cities has recognized 25 state lawmakers, including Rep. Dave Lislegard (DFL-Aurora), Rep. Roger Skraba (R-Ely) and Sen. Grant Hauschild (DFL-Hermantown), as 2024 Legislators of Distinction. Chosen legislators are honored for specific actions that aided efforts of Minnesota cities during the past year’s state legislative session. Morning storms clear out by midday, heat and humidity follow
MINNEAPOLIS — Tuesday continues a now familiar pattern of scattered storms and summer heat in Minnesota.Lingering morning storms north and south of the Twin Cities should wrap up by midday. The rest of the daywill be hot and humid, with highs in the upper 80s and heat index in the mid-90s.Wednesday will be the hottest day of the week, with highs near 90 and a heat index near 100, with storms likely later in the day.Thursday will be a bit cooler, with highs closer to average and another chance for evening storms. Temperatures jump back up again on Friday.Rain potentially returns on Sunday, and temperatures will once again drop a few degrees.

Minnesota poison control centers see spike in mushroom exposure calls
MINNEAPOLIS — Mushroom foraging has become a popular hobby in recent years. Thanks to Minnesota's warm and wet summer, the opportunities seem endless for foragers, with mushrooms flourishing under the weather conditions. While some mushrooms are safe to eat, other wild mushrooms can be deadly. "We've seen a lot more mushroom exposures," said Dr. Lesley Pepin, the Associate Medical Director at the Minnesota Regional Poison Center. Since April, the Minnesota Regional Poison Center says it has received 90 calls for potential exposures. Last year during that same time period they received 26 calls. TUESDAY: After the last of the showers diminished this morning, it leaves clear skies for the morning. The heat and humidity are still ramping up with widespread 90% humidity and temperatures will also be in the upper-60s. Temperatures in the afternoon will be one of the hottest during the week in the 90s. On Tuesday, central ND and north central SD are included in a level two risk for severe storms. Most of eastern ND, SD, and southern MN are in a level one risk for severe storms. Damaging wind gusts and hail are the biggest concern with these storms.

EPA cut use of cancer-causing sterilizer prolific in med-tech. A Minnesota company might have a fix
In March, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency decreed a cut to sterilization chemical ethylene oxide, calling it "one of the most potent cancer-causing chemicals." Eliminating its use, however, isn't so simple. Med-tech companies deploy the chemical often when cleaning their inventions and equipment before they make it to medical professionals and patients. State trade group Medical Alley, immediately responded to the ruling with concern about how this would hamper Minnesota's many med-tech businesses.
