Oswego County Joins Statewide STOP-DWI Effort
OSWEGO COUNTY – Oswego County STOP-DWI Coordinator David Hall announced that law enforcement agencies and STOP-DWI coordinators across the state will participate in a special effort to raise awareness about the dangers of impaired driving. The state’s STOP-DWI Memorial Day “High Visibility Engagement Campaign” runs from Friday, May 24 through Monday, May 27.
Richard Swierczek Brought Excellence To Fulton Music, Community
Just as Professor Harold Hill captivated the community of River City, Iowa with his charisma and dynamic personality, so, too, did Richard Swierczek, widely revered as Fulton’s own “Music Man.” He received the Fulton Music Association Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007, and served as Director of Music in Fulton schools from 1970-1983, but his impact reached deep into our community.

Phoenix Hosts 9th Olympiad Invitational
PHOENIX, NY – For the ninth consecutive year, John C. Birdlebough High School in Phoenix played host to the county-wide Olympiad Invitational event. This event took place on May 16 and welcomed 403 athletes and their families, support staff, and spectators alike. Athletes took part in friendly competitions which included track races, softball throw, shot put, standing and running broad jump, infield games and hand cycles. They had the opportunity to get their face painted, met the school mascots, and interacted with the many attendees.
Fulton Teachers’ Association Honors Outstanding Students
FULTON – The Fulton Teachers’ Association held their annual awards ceremony to recognize outstanding students and school citizens in each of the six Fulton CSD schools. More than eighty students were honored at the event, which was held at G. Ray Bodley auditorium on Tuesday, May 14. Students were announced by members of the Student Recognition Committee and called up according to their school. Recipients were recognized for a variety of reasons including academic excellence, overcoming obstacles and civic involvement. The evening concluded with refreshments in the auditorium lobby.

Little Utica United Methodist Church is having a Flea Market on Saturday, June 1, 2024 from 9:00 am until 2:00 pm at the church. This event will be held in conjunction with a half price sale in their New to You clothing store and Schoolhouse Boutique. Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the New Trail at Mexico Point Park
MEXICO, NY – The Friends of Mexico Point Park would like to invite the public to a Ribbon ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Handicap Accessible Trail at Mexico Point State Park. The Ceremony will be held on Sunday, June 9th at 3:00 pm at Mexico Point State Park. The new limestone-hardened trail will allow people of all ages, with wheelchairs, walkers or baby carriages to travel easily from the parking lot to the shore of Lake Ontario, and along the lakeshore, culminating at a beautiful new butterfly garden. There are also spurs from the main trail to the Pavilion, restrooms, and picnic area, with easy access to the benches along the lakeshore to view the lake.

$35 Million In Breakwall Repairs Begins At Port Of Oswego With Granite Block Deliveries
More than 60 rail cars of granite blocks arrived recently to begin the West breakwall repair and reconstruction project , it was announced by William Scriber, executive director and CEO, Port of Oswego Authority, (POA). A total of more than 300 rail cars are expected to arrive at the port’s rail yard for the project this year, and in July, the construction company Dean Marine & Excavating, Inc of Michigan will begin placing these blocks in the breakwall.

Michael Tyrrell, Sr.
FULTON – May 16, 2024, Michael Tyrrell, Sr. passed peacefully at age 65 surrounded by those who loved him. His legacy continues through his loving partner Katherine and their children Michael Jr. Laura, Allison, and grandchildren Matthew, Kemper, Nyalah, and Bjorn; along with his twin sister Mary Tyrrell. Michael was a master tinkerer who enjoyed trains, sci-fi and family card games. He also loved to play horse with his children where his famous “hook shot” was coined. He spent most of his life making those around him laugh and for those he loved he was a shoulder to cry on. Foster Funeral Home has care of arrangements.
