FULTON – April 3, 2024, Gordon R. Chalone, 88; of Fulton, NY passed away peacefully at home Wednesday, April 3rd, 2024, with his family by his side. He was born in Fulton, NY to the late John A. and Dorothy (Compton) Chalone. Mr. Chalone remained a lifetime resident of Fulton, NY. He was a United States Veteran having served in the Army during the Korean Era while stationed in Germany. Gordon worked with the Teamsters, Syracuse, NY for 33 years. He had a few favorite things: First, was his Family, Second, was Music, Third, was Antique Cars and lastly was being known as a “Handy Guy.” Gordon enjoyed being a member of several Antique Car Clubs. He was a lifetime musician having played trumpet, piano and sang with numerous musicals, theater shows and once with the Syracuse Symphony with the Fulton Men’s Chorus performing Beethoven’s 9th Symphony.

Mayor Rob Corradino Has Announced That Due To The Eclipse Event On Monday April 8Th, All Non-Essential City Employees Will Work Until Noon
OSWEGO – Mayor Rob Corradino has announced that due to the Eclipse event on Monday April 8th, all non-essential city employees will work until noon. However, Oswego Police Department, Oswego Fire Department, and Public Works Department personnel will be working to assure a safe viewing day for everyone. The total solar eclipse will begin at 2:08 pm, with totality occurring at 3:21 and will last for 3 minutes, 30 seconds and conclude after 4:30 pm.

Oswego County Promotes Air Traffic Safety Ahead of Solar Eclipse April 8
OSWEGO COUNTY – Oswego County reminds drone and aircraft pilots to plan ahead for the total solar eclipse on Monday, April 8. “We all know to expect road traffic congestion on the day of the eclipse, but we are also anticipating a high volume of air traffic as well,” said Oswego County Airport Manager Brandon Schwerdt. “To better ensure public safety in these circumstances, the county airport will be closed to motor vehicle traffic and the general public for eclipse viewing.”

FULTON – April 3, 2024, The City of Fulton will be closing government business offices on Monday, April 8, in support of the State of Emergency declared by Oswego County on April 2. The State of Emergency (SOE) was declared as a precautionary measure, in anticipation of a surge in visitors entering the county on April 8, 2024 to view the eclipse that may put a strain on health, safety and traffic resources.

Born in Oswego, she was a daughter to the late Keith Chatterson and Eileen (Janaushek) Haines. Betty was a devoted wife and mother, spending her life raising 10 children. She enjoyed sewing, garage sales, auctions, and camping. Betty took great pride in her flower gardens and horses. She was predeceased by her husband of over 60 years, Thomas Simmons; two children, Danny and Christine, and her grandson, Thomas “Tommy” John Simmons.
High Speed Pursuit in Oswego County
OSWEGO COUNTY – Yesterday evening, at around 6:48 PM, the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office engaged in a high-speed pursuit with a 2005 Chrysler 300. The pursuit began on US Route 11 in Mexico when a deputy with radar observed the vehicle traveling at 117 MPH. The Chrysler 300 continued at speeds over 100 MPH and refused to stop as it traveled south on US Route 11, including traveling with tires off the roadway and driving towards oncoming traffic to pass vehicles in effort to evade Law Enforcement. The vehicle eventually stopped at the Central Square Fire Department and the driver was identified as Matthew Losito, 31 years of age and from Hastings. This chase from start to finish lasted approximately four minutes. Losito was found to be in possession of an alcoholic beverage and a functional portion of a firearm.
