H. Lee White Museum Presents Volunteer Of The Year Award
OSWEGO – An Oswego couple who calls themselves “perpetual volunteers” were recently honored as 2023 Volunteers of the Year by the H. Lee White Maritime Museum. Ned and Gail Goebricher, of Oswego, were honored recently at the Museum’s Annual Volunteer Reception for their dedication to the restoration of the Oswego West Pierhead Lighthouse and their involvement with the H Lee White Maritime Museum in particular with Lighthouse Boat Tours.
Barbara J. Pisano
FULTON – March 12, 2024, Barbara J. Pisano, 94, of Fulton died Tuesday peacefully at home. Mrs. Pisano was born in Syracuse the daughter of the late Frederick and Esther (Oswald) Kirsch. She was a graduate of Ithaca College, in education and received her master’s degree from SUNY Oswego. Mrs. Pisano physical education teacher for one year at Auburn High School before transferring to G. Ray Bodley High School, where she was a physical education teacher, and guidance counselor until retiring in 1986. Through her teaching she was able to assist in the growth and education of her students.
Lee White Museum offers special hours during Solar Eclipse Weekend
The H. Lee White Maritime Museum will be open special hours during Saturday and Sunday, April 6th and 7th from 10-5pm. Exhibits include a pre-1910 6-inch Brashear telescope and navigation equipment as well as a special Shipwreck exhibit courtesy of longtime divers Tim Caza and Dennis Gerber of www.sonarguy.com. The Museum will be closed to the public on Monday, April 8th and parking will be off limits on the West Pier starting at noon.
Oswego Players Seeking New Playwrights
OSWEGO – The Oswego Players are seeking aspiring playwrights who want their work performed on stage. The Donald J. McCann Memorial One-Act Playwriting Contest, a competition dedicated to the discovery of local talent, is officially open for submissions this year. Oswego Players president Norman Berlin III says that, “Anyone who has ever had the slightest interest in writing a play is strongly encouraged to do so and enter!”
“Total Eclipse Of The Park” Event In Fulton Celebrates Rare Event With Family Fun
FULTON – The city of Fulton’s celebration of the total solar eclipse will provide a fun afternoon for families, built around a view that won’t return for centuries. The event, called Total Eclipse Of The Park, takes place from Noon to 4:30 p.m. Monday, April 8th at the Fulton War Memorial grounds at 609 W. Broadway. This event is a joint collaboration of the Fulton Special Events Committee, the City of Fulton Parks and Recreation Department and the Fulton City School District.
Person and Dog Rescued from the Oswego Harbor
OSWEGO – An adult male and his dog were rescued from the waters of the Oswego Harbor this evening. At 7:38pm a quick-thinking bystander called 911 after a male had entered the water from the Cahill Pier to rescue his dog. The 911 caller stated that the male was struggling in the water and unable to get back to safety. The 911 caller assisted greatly by lowering an article of clothing for the man to hold on to until rescuers arrived. Oswego County 911 quickly dispatched emergency crews to the scene.

OSWEGO COUNTY – Wednesday morning at approximately 7:10 a.m. Volney fire was dispatched along with Menter ambulance to a 2 car MVA rollover with injuries. 2801(K.Hayden) and 2802(T.Vosseller) arrive just after Menter ambulance and confirmed a 2 car MVA into the woods. All occupants were either out of the vehicles or being assisted out of the vehicles upon arrival. 2821ff(B.Chace) and 2822Capt.(R.Beach) arrived and assisted with checking both vehicles for any more occupants and secured both vehicles. 2871ff.(J.Richmond) arrived and assisted with traffic control. A total of 3 patients were transported to the hospital for various injuries. Crews were on scene about an hour and 20 minutes clearing about 8:30 am. Volney fire would like to thank Menter ambulance, Oswego County Sheriffs, New York State Police and Shameless towing for their assistance on scene. Volney fire would also like to say thank you to the bystanders who stopped right after the accident happened and tried to help those involved. Its nice to see individuals in the community still stop and help a neighbor in their time of need. Neighbors helping neighbors. Please consider joining your local volunteer fire department today.

Energy Savings Program for Farm Homes and Ag Businesses
Cornell Cooperative Extension of Oswego County, together with the New York State Energy and Research Development Agency (NYSERDA) and the Ag Energy NY Program, will be hosting a free in-person event for agricultural landowners to help identify ways of reducing energy costs for residential homes and farm businesses. Topics to be discussed include identifying energy efficiency improvements to help reduce utility bills, learning how to request a free energy assessment for both home and farm operations, and identifying grant & loan opportunities to help offset the cost of energy efficiency improvements. FULTON – Wayne E. Buske, 75, of Minetto, New York passed at his home on Sunday, March 10th, 2024. He was born in Oswego, New York to the late Carl and Agnes (Flint) Buske. He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Mary Ann Buske (Ruggio), in 2021. Wayne has been a resident of Minetto most of his life and was the owner/operator of Buske Collision for over 47 years.
