OSWEGO – On Friday, March 29, Joe Cortini and his Jazz Mafia Trio will kick-off the Oswego YMCA’s Laugh Out Loud fundraising event at Curtis Manor in Oswego. Doors open at 6pm with cocktails, appetizers and live music from the trio. The comedy show featuring Gomez Adams and Nick Marra will follow at 7pm. The IOOB Fairdale Chapter 1647 recently presented a $1,000 donation to the Friends of Hospice In Oswego County, (FOHOC), it was announced by Elena Twiss, FOHOC executive director. “The IOOB is proud to support Friends of Hospice In Oswego County and is growing and expanding to better serve our community,” said Roseanne Phillips, IOOB bar steward. FULTON – March 2, 2024, Gladys Daniels a lifelong resident of Fulton passed away Saturday, March 2, 2024. She was born in Hannibal to William and Bernie Shoults on September 9, 1938 and would say she was 69 years old but feel free to do the math! Gladys was a homemaker, a beloved babysitter and retired from Birds Eye Foods after 20 years of service. If you knew Gladys, you loved her. It’s said we are all stories in the end and boy she has left us with so many wonderful, funny quirky ones. That will be her legacy.

FULTON – February 24, 2024, Judith “Judy” T. McCarthy, 77, of Syracuse, NY and formerly of Fulton, NY, died Saturday, February 24, 2024, at Elderwood in Liverpool, surrounded by family. Born in Hackensack, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Julius and Dorothea (Metcalfe) Thaisz. Judy was the valedictorian and president of Morrisville-Eaton Central School, class of 1964. She attended Cornell University and started her employment as a reporter for the Oneida Daily Dispatch. While reporting a story, she met and later married the love of her life, Frederick “Mac” McCarthy, Sr., a New York state trooper. For several years she was a full-time homemaker and then earned a degree at Onondaga Community College and became bookkeeper for both Ed Vayner & Associates in Fulton and Reflected Images in Syracuse.

MEXICO, NY – February 28, 2024, Naiveda B. Burke, 88; of Mexico, NY passed peacefully Wednesday, February 28th, 2024 at her home with her family by her side. She was born in Union City, NJ to the late Bartley J. and Rayta (Middleton) Burke. Naiveda retired from Nestles Co., Fulton where she worked as a supervisor and wrapper. She is survived by her son Lester Gates Jr. of Parish, NY and daughter Cheryl Gates of Greenwich, NY; her sister and caregiver: Rayta Whitney of Mexico and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral Service and Burial will be held privately.

FULTON – February 28, 2024, Linda L. Rogers, 63; of Fulton passed Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at Oswego Hospital after enduring a long illness. Linda was born in Fulton, NY to the late Raymond and Lois (Haynes) Palmer. She remained a lifetime resident of Fulton, NY. Linda was past employed with Nestles Co., Fulton for 21 years and Oswego County Opportunities, Fulton, NY before retiring from the maintenance department with the Oswego County Courts; Oswego, NY. She most enjoyed playing BINGO and Bunko. Linda loved nature and always enjoyed watching and feeding the birds and animals that visited she and her husband’s property.

FULTON – February 28, 2024, Daniel J. Falanga, 58, of Fulton, NY passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 after enduring a short illness. He was born in Fulton, NY and Danny remained a proud lifetime resident of Fulton. He was the previous owner and operator of Muskies Bar & Grill in Fulton, NY and was most recently a 10+ year employee of PCA in Liverpool, NY. Danny loved sports and was a lifelong Pittsburgh Pirates fan. Danny loved to camp and especially enjoyed his family’s numerous camping trips to Fair Haven State Park. He was an avid fisherman and looked forward to the Bullhead Tournament in Black Lake every year with his friends, and was a six-time Champion having attended and participated for 35 years. Danny also had a deep love of golf and his favorite pastime was being on the golf course with his son Craig. In May of 2023, Dan fulfilled a bucket list item by attending the PGA Tournament at Oak Hill Country Club with his brothers. When he was unable to go golfing Danny enjoyed spending his summers playing BYG with his friends and family, and he was a three-time BYG Master’s Tournament Champion. Danny loved going on unplanned adventures with his daughter Katie, and especially enjoyed their “Route 3 Run”. Family and Friends will miss knowing that from April to October the bonfires at Dan and Wendy’s home will not have Danny there to welcome everyone. He loved to cook, and his chili has been labeled as legendary. Danny was an extremely outgoing man and a devoted friend. He would face a stranger with his winning smile and say, “Dan Falanga, Fulton, NY,” and any person he met came away as his friend. Above all things Danny loved his family, and was unendingly proud of Katie and Craig and of his nieces and nephews. He was also an animal lover and will be missed by his three dogs and companions: Penny, Marty, and Wiley.

Moisture collects in these crevices, expanding and contracting due to freezing and thawing. The pavement gradually crumbles, and when combined with the weight of passing cars, eventually results in a pothole.

Miller, age 69, a lifetime resident of Hannibal, NY passed away on Thursday, February 29, 2024, after a courageous battle, at St. Luke Health Services, with her family by her side. She was predeceased by her parents, Stewart and Dorothy Miller; sister, Elizabeth (Jerry) Lucas; and brother-in-law, Michael M. Rollis.
