Gillibrand, Great Lakes Lawmakers, Introduce Legislation To Extend Great Lakes Protections
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and members of the Great Lakes Task Force introduced the bipartisan Great Lakes Restoration Initiative Act of 2024, which extends this critical program for another five years through 2031, and increases annual funding levels from $475 million in 2026 to $500 million from 2027 through 2031. The Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI) is the most significant investment ever made to restore and protect our Great Lakes and its watersheds, which continue to be stressed by contamination and threats to water quality, and are under increasing pressure from new invasive species, climate change, erosion, and habitat destruction. The Great Lakes Restoration Initiative has focused federal and nonfederal efforts to stop the spread of carp and other invasive species, restore coastline and habitats connecting our streams and rivers, clean up environmentally damaged Areas of Concern, prevent future contamination and address new and emerging threats to our lakes and waterways.

Oswego County Health Department Reports Website Issue
OSWEGO COUNTY – The Oswego County Health Department experienced a technical issue last night during a routine upgrade to the county’s website. Approximately 200 emails were sent to some residents. The emails contained their own outdated COVID-19 paperwork with limited personal information. Health department staff immediately notified Oswego County Central Services (IT) about the issue.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand held a video press conference to call for the passage of the Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act and revealed how the expanded child tax credit included in it would help New York families. The expansion would make it easier for low-income families to qualify for the Child Tax Credit (CTC), adjust the credit for inflation, and help lift an estimated 400,000 children out of poverty.
Fulton City Council Meeting Opens With Full Council in Attendance, Change In Public Comment Procedure
FULTON – On February 6, the Fulton City Common Council opened its meeting with a full council in attendance and a proposed change in procedure. The change impacts the public comment period, splitting it into two. The one to start meetings will allow residents to speak on items from the agenda, while the second will be held at the end of common council meetings for topics not related to the agenda. The changes also require public speakers to sign up ahead of time, similar to what is done at the City of Oswego Common Council meetings.
