Solar Eclipse Early Dismissal, Altmar-Parish-Williamstown Central School District
Letter from Naomi Ryfun, Ed.D., Superintendent of Schools, Altmar-Parish-Williamstown Central School District. We are writing to inform you of a unique and exciting event that will impact our community on April 8th, 2024. On that day, Oswego County is expected to be a prime viewing destination for a total solar eclipse. To ensure the safety of our students, the District will run a half-day schedule for all students on April 8th, 2024. This decision is based on information provided by the Oswego County.

ALBANY, NY – Recommendations Include Updating Fire Code of New York State and Establishing Best Practices. Governor Kathy Hochul today released initial recommendations from the Inter-Agency Fire Safety Working Group, outlining enhanced safety standards for battery energy storage systems. The draft recommendations include potential updates to the Fire Code of New York State as well as a list of additional opportunities for defining and implementing best practices. If adopted, the changes will codify enhanced safety standards and continue to position New York as a national leader in responsible and reliable battery energy storage development. Today’s announcement follows the release of initial data that found that there were no reported injuries and no harmful levels of toxins detected following fires at battery energy storages systems in Jefferson, Orange and Suffolk Counties last summer.

FULTON – January 30, 2024, Louise M. Race, age 70, of Fulton, NY, passed away at Upstate University Hospital on Tuesday, January 30, 2024. Louise is predeceased by her parents Maysel and Emma Markham, and her Husband Martin J. Race. Louise retired as a Licensed practical nurse from Van Duyn Nursing home. She enjoyed traveling, especially cruising with her friends and family, and spending summers at Brennan’s Beach. While at home Louise liked bowling, reading, and playing Bunco. Louise is survived by her brothers, Maysel (Peg), Fred (Linda), and Albert (Mary) Markham; her children, Lance Race (Tina), Heather Race (Kevin Lawson), Scott Race (Cathy), Cherri Race (Mike Mclaughlin), and Sonya Jones (Toby Bushnoe). Louise has 15 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
