Mary Calderwood
OSWEGO COUNTY – Mary Calderwood died on July 3, 2024 at the age of 91. Mary was dearly loved by her family. She was married to her husband Robert for 54 years, who passed away in 2014. Mary is survived by her children, Paul, Andrew (Laura) and Tammy (Bill) Mehrtens, her sister, Jeanette Ours, along with seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.
OCO Nutrition Service Summer Food Service Program Available at Camp Zerbe
FULTON – Children enrolled in activities at Camp Zerbe in Williamstown have the opportunity to enjoy free breakfasts and lunches courtesy of Oswego County Opportunities Nutrition Services Summer Food Service Program. Meals will be provided to all children without charge regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service.
William G. Pomeroy Historic Transportation Marker Dedication Ceremony for Harbor Rail-Trail Bridge Scheduled for July 17th
OSWEGO – The Heritage Foundation of Oswego County and Oswego City Historian, Mark Slosek have announced that a ceremony to unveil and dedicate a historic transportation marker for the City of Oswego Harbor Rail-Trail Bridge will take place on Wednesday, July 17th at 5:00 p.m. at the west entrance of the bridge. A brief presentation will be made by Historian Mark Slosek along with comments by distinguished guests including the William G. Pomeroy Foundation and local elected officials. The public is cordially invited to attend this dedication ceremony and those planning to attend are requested to assemble at the west entrance of the Harbor Rail-Trail Oswego River Bridge behind Dunkin Donuts.

Fulton Police Make Arrest in Sexual Abuse Case
FULTON – On 06/22/24 the Fulton Police Department was made aware of a possible inappropriate relationship between a 39 year old male and an 11 year old child. An investigation was begun, and a suspect identified. It is alleged that over the course of several months, the suspect subjected the victim child to several instances of sexual contact, some of which he recorded on his cell phone. After the initial report to police, the suspect fled to his home in Middletown, NY. Based on the investigation and the evidence collected, the Fulton police obtained an arrest warrant for the suspect. On 07/05/24 members of the Middletown Police Department took the suspect into custody. Fulton Police traveled to Middletown, where they took custody of the suspect and returned him to Oswego County. Fulton Lions Install Guyer As President And New Slate Of Officers For 2024-25
The Fulton Lions Club installed David Guyer as their new president and its slate of officers for 2024-25 at its recent June meeting. This is the fourth time Guyer has served as club president. The ceremony was performed by Past President Brett Tallents. Immediate Past President Patrick Devendorf left, hands the president’s gavel to Guyer.
James Edward Burdekin
Fulton – June 25, 2024, James Edward Burdekin, 88, of Fulton, NY, passed away on June 25, 2024. Jim was born on November 17, 1935, in Oswego, NY to Norman and Henrietta “Hattie” Burdekin. He was a member of the Naval Reserves then graduated from Oswego State University with a bachelor’s degree in education. For most of his career, Jim was a teacher and a guidance counselor for the Fulton City School District. Some of the subjects he taught at the high school were mechanical drawing, math, auto shop, and tennis. Jim was a lifetime member and two time president of Pathfinder Fish and Game Club. He was an avid sportsman, trapshooter and an accomplished hunter and fisherman. Later in life, Jim took up playing pool and volunteering at the Fulton Polish Home. He was predeceased by his parents, Norman and Hattie; wife, Daurice L. Burdekin; brothers, Norman “Bud”, Robert, John, and Stanley; and sister, Evelyn.

Oswego Pilice Respond to A Large Fight, East Tenth and East Cayuga Street
OSWEGO – On Sunday, July 7, 2024 @ 3:35pm, the Oswego Police Department was dispatched to the area of East Tenth and Cayuga Street for a large fight that was in progress. While enroute, patrol units were advised that weapons may be involved. Arriving officers observed a large fight at which time they began to disperse all involved. Several juveniles and adult subjects were arrested at the scene. One juvenile was observed in possession of a CO 2 “air soft” style gun. This style of “air soft” gun closely resembles a Glock pistol. Another adult male, Alex Santiago, 37 yr old was arrested for possession of a baseball bat that was allegedly used during the fight.
