Victims of Maine farmhouse fire identified

Two people who were found dead in a burned farmhouse in Otisfield have been identified.. The state fire marshal’s office was called to the two-story, 100-year-old house on Main Road (Route 121) at 11:23 p.m. Sunday, the office said in a news release. Inside the burned house, investigators found the remains of two adults. Officials believed the victims were 77-year-old Jean Jalbert and 65-year-old Donna Jalbert, who lived at the house. Their remains were brought to the state Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta where autopsies will be conducted at a later date and DNA will be used to identify the remains. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, according to the fire marshal’s office. BDN writer Christopher Burns contributed to this story.
