The Minnesota Academy of Science has welcomed Dr. Patrick Moore, of Otsego, to its board of directors.

Moore brings extensive scientific experience to the Minnesota nonprofit and has previously served as a judge at the State Science Fair organized by the Minnesota Academy of Science.

“I aim to be involved in decision-making processes, policy development, and setting standards within the Minnesota scientific education community,” Moore said. “Joining the MAS Board of Directors would enable me to actively contribute to the advancement of young and adult science education and have a positive impact on its direction.”

Moore is the senior translational research program coordinator at the University of Minnesota Masonic Cancer Center. He holds a doctorate in microbiology from University College Dublin, Ireland, as well as a bachelor’s degree in biomedical science from Technological University of Dublin, Ireland. He has also served on the Environmental Resource Commission at the Champlin City Council and is a member of the Minnesota Public Health Association.

“Dr. Moore brings a wealth of experience from his career that will benefit Minnesota students studying science, technology, engineering and math (STEM),” said Minnesota Academy of Science Executive Director Lara Maupin. “His knowledge will be of assistance to MAS as we work to open doors to STEM for Minnesotans of all backgrounds.”

Founded in 1873, the Minnesota Academy of Science is a nonprofit organization committed to connecting Minnesotans of all backgrounds with resources and opportunities to engage in STEM learning, research, and communication — and to recognize excellence in these areas. The Minnesota Academy of Science’s programs include team competitions, STEM project showcases, and mentoring and enrichment programs that promote STEM inquiry and research.
