Otsego gets ‘clean’ opinion on city audit

The city of Otsego has received a “clean” opinion in its most recent audit, which was conducted by BerganKDV.

A clean opinion, also known as an unmodified opinion, is the best opinion that can be given, according to city documents.

“It is an indication that the financial statements are fairly presented based on the results of the audit work that we completed,” said Nancy Schulzetenberg, a CPA with BerganKDV, an independent CPA firm. She reviewed the results of the audit at the June 24 City Council meeting.

There was one finding regarding a lack of segregation of accounting duties due to a limited number of office employees.

“That’s not new for Otsego (and) not at all uncommon for a city of your size,” Schulzetenberg said.

After hearing a detailed report on the city’s finances from Schulzetenberg, the City Council voted to adopt the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report for 2023.
