Update: Road closed in Otsego due to ‘slope failure’; short-term fix forthcoming

    Update:

The Wright County Highway Department announced Friday, July 19, that the segment of County State Aid Highway 36 (53rd Street NE), between the intersections of Quilley Avenue NE and Rachele Avenue NE in Otsego will continue to be closed for approximately two more weeks while county staff construct a short-term fix. The start date of the work is pending approval of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

The closure has been in place due to a "slope failure" on the roadway along the Crow River. Because of the unstable soils and safety concerns it presents to the traveling public, county staff has been working with consulting geotechnical engineers to evaluate the damage and recommend both short- and long-term repairs. The short-term repair would allow the county to reopen the roadway to traffic while the long-term repair is evaluated and designed.

There will be no detour posted. The Highway Department will announce on the county’s website and social media platforms when the road reopens.
