Robert Hardee tragically killed in Ottawa County 3-vehicle crash
OTTAWA, OK, (June 20, 2024) - In Ottawa County, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported that a Wyandotte man died in a fiery three-vehicle crash on Thursday. The incident occurred at around 12:43 p.m. along State Highway 10C, just east of Highway 10, on Monday, about five miles north of Wyandotte.
Southwest Missouri murder suspect arrested in Oklahoma
OTTAWA COUNTY, Okla. — A Newton County murder suspect is finally in custody. The Newton County Sheriff’s Office says Joshua Taft, 42, was arrested in Ottawa County Oklahoma Thursday afternoon. He’s accused of shooting and killing Eric Whittington, 50, just after midnight on May 30th on Freddie Lane in Joplin. Authorities said an altercation occurred between the two men, which led to the shooting.
I-44/Will Rogers Turnpike narrows at Missouri line for summer pavement work
OTTAWA COUNTY, OK (KTUL) — On Monday night, the I-44/Will Rogers Turnpike will be narrowed for pavement rehabilitation. Officials said east and westbound will be narrowed to one lane in each direction between the Missouri state line (mm 1) to mm 5 east of Miami in Ottawa County from 7 p.m. Monday to 7 a.m. Tuesday.

A 25-year-old woman who was in the custody of two Oklahoma county jails becomes pregnant and the Oklahoma Department of Corrections wants some answers. The woman was arrested in December and was being held in the Ottawa County jail in Miami on drug related charges. After a fight with another inmate, she was transferred to the Delaware County Jail in Jay. The woman claims to have had intercourse in a holding cell while in Delaware County with a trustee. A trustee is an inmate who has more access to areas in the jail than other inmates due to good behavior.

New Ottawa County judge sworn in
MIAM, Okla. – Ottawa County attorney Andrew Meloy was sworn in as Ottawa County Special Judge on Monday. Meloy takes over from the retiring Becky Baird. A former attorney with the Hartley Law Firm, Meloy also served as the municipal judge for Fairland, Wyandotte and Afton communities.
