Local resident Maggi Dandar couldn’t help but notice a true testament to friendship and caring on a recent shopping trip at the Oregon Kroger. “I happened to notice two lovely senior women doing their shopping together. It was like watching a well-oiled machine as Lois Eddy, 71, would hold the coupons and tell Betty Kasubski, 86, how many items to get. Betty would get it off the shelves and Lois would place it in the cart. Lois was also proficient at knowing which aisle had what in it and how to find it.

Motorcyclist sustains serious injuries in crash along LaPlaisance Road
LaSALLE TWP. — A Monroe man suffered serious injuries Saturday night when the motorcycle he was driving struck a guardrail and he was thrown onto an embankment. The crash in LaSalle Township was reported at 9:12 p.m. Saturday, July 20, Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough reported in a news release. The preliminary investigation showed that James R. Miller, 51, of Monroe was driving a red 2008 Yamaha motorcycle westbound on Laplaisance Road passing Lighthouse Road when, for unknown reasons, the motorcycle began to leave the roadway to the north and struck a guardrail causing Miller to be ejected from the motorcycle onto a nearby embankment.

Adrian, MI – The Lenawee County Fair, Michigan’s longest running fair, continues today with many 4-H shows starting at 9 am. Meeting to address Maumee River fish, wildlife improvements near Towpath Park
Maumee-area residents are being asked to weigh in on $2 million to $5 million of fish and wildlife habitat improvements planned for the Maumee River near the city’s Towpath Park. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is hosting a public information session at 5:30 p.m. on July 30 about the work, called the Great Lakes Fisheries and Ecosystem Restoration Towpath Park project. The 90-minute meeting will be inside the Maumee High School Performing Arts Center, 1147 Saco St., Maumee. Three potential locations are under consideration. They include sites adjacent to existing walking paths west or east of the Conant Street Bridge, or a portion of the river further downstream, northeast of the Audubon Islands State Nature Preserve. A river-adjacent wetland complex, vernal pools, and softening streambank features to stabilize the bank and slow water velocity near the shoreline are being contemplated.
