The KU Hoops Roster: Transfers
In the first two editions of this series, I went through KU’s returning starters, followed by a look this year’s freshman recruiting class. However, in modern college sports, recruiting never ends and also includes players from other schools looking for a better destination. In years past, Self has used D1 transfers as a way to shore up what appears to be a weakness on the team. It’s gone better in some cases than others. Nic Timberlake was a sought-after senior transfer last year intended to give the team a knockdown shooter with the quickness to drive and score on poor closeouts. What we saw instead was a player skilled enough to look good at Towson, but who simply couldn’t compete at the Big 12 level. We’ve seen similar results from players like Joseph Yesufu, who spent the second half of his sophomore season lighting up in the MVC at Drake. Yesufu never found his footing at Kansas, and after inconsistent playing time, spent his final year at Washington State.

FIRST WARN FORECAST: Chance for rain dwindles as heat returns
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Sunday turned out to be a spectacular day! Most of us were in the upper 70s and lower 80s in the afternoon. We do have a few isolated showers/thunderstorms that will be possible through early evening, but this activity is more miss than hit. Many of us will stay dry. If you are loving this cooler stretch, we do have one more day in the lower 80s before the temperatures climb later this week. Monday morning starts in the lower 60s, with lower 80s in the afternoon. There is another 20% chance for a pop-up shower or random rumble, but that is about it. No severe thunderstorm threat. The main weather story after Monday will be the gradual climb of temperatures back to late July standards. We are expecting mid-80s Tuesday and Wednesday with a return to the upper 80s by the end of this next week. Generally, no major heat is expected, but we could climb into the lower 90s for some next weekend. Moderate humidity could allow for it to feel slightly hotter than our actual air temperatures. There is no great chance of rain in the next week, so things could turn a little crispy through the end of July. Some of our computer models are hinting at a much hotter start to August.
Chiefs Make Surprise Cut on First Official Day of Practice
The Kansas City Chiefs’ road towards a three-peat begins this week with the start of training camp. There’s a lot of attention on the Chiefs after their dramatic win in the Super Bowl over the San Francisco 49ers, and if they can muster up the energy to make another deep run. Kansas City has a talented roster that has 90 players on it but will be paired down to 53 by the end of the summer.
