Ouray International Film Festival is June 20–23

The Ouray International Film Festival is coming this week and will run June 20–23.

The fifth annual festival is chock full of screenings and parties and discussion and will undoubtedly draw devotees of the celluloid life like moths to a flame.

The Ukrainian crisis will be front and center at this year's festival, and filmmakers Maria Pankova, Jordan Campbell, and Max Rykov will be part of a special program featuring Ukrainian stories from different historical vantage points.

The majority of the screenings take place at the Wright Opera House, a classic mining-era San Juans opera house located on Main Street.

Also of note, Belgian filmmaker Michiel Thomas will be on hand to present the world premiere of his new film Ballin' Out .

"This five-part documentary series delves into the lives of LGBTQ+ women on Team USA wheelchair basketball as they compete at the World Championships in Dubai," notes Thomas's website. "Each 10 to 15-minute episode reveals their diverse disability origin stories, poignant coming-out journeys, and the crucial role of mental health in elite sports."

Members of the Ouray Mountain Rescue Team will also be on hand for the discussion.
