Hey Detroit, get ready for an exciting week as the weather cools down (for a minute, anyway)! This weekend, don’t miss the Canfield Street Fair in Midtown with workshops, music, and delicious treats. It’s the perfect way to enjoy a Saturday afternoon with family and friends.

On Wednesday night, join me and The Detroit Writing Room at The Whitney for an evening with local authors Bridgett M. Davis and Felicia B. George . They’ll be discussing their books, signing copies and mingling with guests. Plus there’s plenty more to enjoy, from yoga in the parks to burlesque at the Hotel St. Regis, and a neighborhood bike ride on Sunday morning. Embrace the great outdoors and make the most of all the fantastic events happening in the D!

    Thursday

🧘🏿‍♀️ Ease into another glorious weekend with Urban Solace Studio at Yoga on the Riverfront . Can’t make it? Fret not. Apparently it’s free yoga summer in the city! Between Detroit Parks Coalition’s Yoga in the Parks , Yoga on the Riverfront and Yoga in Capital Park , you can get your yoga on every day of the week. Free.

    This weekend

🍸Indulge in some high-end glam with West Grand Burlesque at the Hotel St. Regis on Friday night. Stars of the stage Miss Nyxon , Valerie Van Damme , Kitty Hawk , Dahlia Fatale and Black Ivy will shimmy, shake and make magic while Sarah Jean Anderson holds it down on the microphone. What a perfect date night or girls’ night on the town! $30 advance, $40 at the door.

😷 Catch the Norwest Gallery of Art’s group show Thursday night and this weekend. The ongoing exhibition “Creativity in the Time of Covid-19: Art as a Tool for Combating Inequity and Injustice” is closing on Sunday evening. The show, featuring 24 artists, explores how everyday people coped with the pandemic through creativity. Public viewing hours are Friday to Sunday afternoons. Free.

👜 As the old adage goes: “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure,” so we invite you to go treasure hunting at the Woodbridge Yard Sale on Saturday. Free (to look, at least 😉).

💕 On Saturday, bring yourself and your beautiful family to Youth Self Care Day at Alkebu-lan Village. You will all be warmly embraced with a wide range of social and emotional resources like storytelling, art, yummy food, acupuncture, sound healing, manicures and haircuts. What a treat!

🍦 Midtown will be lit on Saturday afternoon for the family-friendly Canfield Street Fair . Drop in for an indigo dye workshop at City Bird with Rosemarine Textiles, groove out to vinyl on the Third Man Records patio and treat yourself to ice cream and bonbons. Inside scoop: The Wayne State University parking lot at the corner of Cass Avenue will be available to the public. Free.

🎨 Bring your beatnik out to play at MAP Fest (which stands for music, art and poetry) at The Avalon Village in Highland Park. Have your soul moved by Solfull Poetry , Hakeem The People’s Poet and P Tha Poet as they drop the verses. Feel the live music fill your soul as Rockim Williamson , Asaka The Renegade , AyeWhy , Koron and Rees RP bring the beats, while live art by Jewels of Detroit Art Alliance , Vrs Chuck Tattoo , Payge Rumler and Nasrine Zahwi provide a window onto the artists’ muses. $20, but it’s $7.27 if you snag a limited presale ticket.

🚲 Start your “Sunday Funday” off on wheels in Morningside for a four-mile neighborhood bike ride . Meet at Three Mile Park (4600 Three Mile Drive) at 10 a.m. Don’t forget your helmet, water and sunscreen. Free.

🎵 On Sunday evening, take in some jazz by The Scales in Russell Woods Park for the neighborhood’s Jazz in the Park series. Bring a lawn chair and an appetite! There will be delicious food on offer from local vendors. Free, but donations are welcome.
