The Bucktail Fire is now 67% contained after burning more than 7,000 acres.

On Sunday, the fire stayed within its current footprint at a total size of 7,202 acres, and rainfall helped to reduce the fire intensity of its interior, according to a press release . Firefighters were able to transition from active suppression to repair and patrolling activities.

On Monday, firefighters continue to clean up, patrol, and monitor the fire perimeter. Firefighters are also doing suppression repair work to restore areas impacted by firefighting operations. Personnel working on the fire will decrease over the next couple of days, but resources will remain on the scene to monitor the fire perimeter.

Highway 90 is now open. Although the area closure remains in effect, 25 Mesa Road will open to thru-traffic at 8 p.m. on Monday. There are, however, still active operations on the road with crews and heavy equipment. The roads and trails north of Highway 90 in the fire area are still closed.

The Bucktail Fire started on August 1 near Nucla, and the cause remains unknown.
