Forbes determines Colorado's 'favorite dog breed' after conducting 10,000-person survey

About two-thirds of U.S. households include a dog, and 85% of dog owners consider their pets a part of their family, according to Forbes Advisor.

Forbes Advisor recently conducted a study to determine each state's favorite dog breeds. They surveyed 10,000 dog owners across the country and included the top 25 most popular breeds nationwide, according to the American Kennel Club . The results showed that the largest percentage of respondents said that "no breed in particular" is their favorite. However, Australian shepherds are ranked as the top favorite dog breed, followed by German shepherds and bulldogs.

The survey found that German shepherds are the most favored breed in Colorado, also ranking as the top breed in 15 other states. German shepherds are highly trainable, intelligent, and loyal. They also commonly serve as search and rescue dogs, police K-9s, and aids in the military.

The survey also asked respondents why they selected a breed as their favorite. A total of 52% of respondents answered that they chose a dog breed because they own or previously owned it.
