On August 21, Doberman-breeder Paul Peavy, 57, was reported missing in the area of Idaho Springs, having not been seen since August 19. Three days later, a privately-organized search party located the body of Peavey, prompting law enforcement to start a death investigation in the 1000 block of Two Brothers Road.

Peavey was associated with the address where the investigation is underway, with his death considered to be suspicious, to be investigated as a homicide. A potentially pertinent detail related to the investigation is that Peavey was a known breeder of Doberman dogs, with "many" Doberman puppies said to be missing from his property by the time he was found. Authorities have not stated whether or not the Doberman puppies may have been a factor in his death, with a motive yet to be determined.

Doberman puppies are one of the pricier breeds around, costing anywhere from $500 to $2,250 a piece. The average price for a Doberman puppy falls at about $1,000, according to the Spot blog . In some cases, however, Doberman puppies have gone for much more , in the range of $3,500 to $4,500.

Law enforcement does not believe there's an ongoing risk to the public.

According to the Clear Creek County Sheriff's Office, additional information is not being released at this time in order to avoid compromising the investigation and potential court proceedings.

Anyone with information in the case should call the sheriff's office non-emergency tip line at 303-679-2393.

Condolences go out to those impacted by Peavey's death.
