Johnson County residents planning to watch Fourth of July fireworks at Corporate Woods in Overland Park will have to go elsewhere Thursday night.

Overland Park posted a notice on its website that the Star Spangled Spectacular at Corporate Woods Founders’ Park was canceled Thursday, saying flooding at Indian Creek has created “extremely muddy conditions” in the park. The statement also noted possible further showers in store for the evening.

The show was rescheduled to take place Friday at 10 p.m. The originally planned musical acts and food trucks will not be present Friday, the city said. Spectators are asked to stay in parking lots and paved paths.

As of Thursday, six other fireworks shows around the Kansas City metro were not happening as scheduled, including in Northeast Johnson County, Kearney, Odessa, Kansas City, Kansas, Paola and Liberty.

Other fireworks shows planned for Thursday, including the fireworks display and festival at the National WWI Museum and Memorial in Kansas City, were scheduled to continue as planned.

Will other firework shows be rained out for weather?

Heavy rain has hit the metro over the past few days, but as of Thursday morning, most forecasts predict cloudy conditions with temperatures in the high 70s and low 80s, with a few scattered showers throughout the day.

Forecasts anticipate the clouds to clear out around 8.m. and clear skies by 10 p.m.— just in time for the fireworks.

The metro remains under a flood warning until 8 p.m. and a flood watch until 1 a.m.

The Star’s Natalie Wallington and Joseph Hernandez contributed.
