The Owatonna Huskies softball team was just one win away from reaching the Section 1AAAA championship game for the third year in a row, but the loss doesn't take away the great season they had as they went 17-7 overall.
The Huskies efforts during the 2024 season went noticed as four players were named to the all-conference team and three of them were named to the all-section team, among other honors awarded to Owatonna softball players.
All-conference and all-section
Three seniors were named to the all-conference team with Samantha Bogen, Kennedy Hudgeman, and Zoie Roush were honored while senior infielder Izzy Radel received an honorable mention. Sophomore Kendra Bogen also got all-conference honors with an impressive season.
Kendra Bogen lead the team in batting average, on base percentage, runs, and walks and also tied with Roush with the most home runs with 4. Bogen was also selected to the all-section squad along with her sister Samantha and Hodgeman.
Hodgeman was the Huskies prominent pitcher, starting 17 games with a record of 11-6. Hodgeman pitched nearly two thirds of the Huskies season with 97.1 innings out of the team's total 151.
Varsity team awards and academic all-state
Kendra Bogen was the offensive player of the year for the Huskies as just a sophomore. Senior catcher and infielder Taya Selbrade was the defensive player of the year while Junior infielder and pitcher Lilly Trager was awarded the most improved/comeback player of the year.
Other varsity team award winners included Samantha Bogen for the husky award, Kennedy Hodgman for the hardest worker, and junior outfielder Preslee Hodgman for teammate of the year.
The Huskies had five students be recognized on the all-state academic team with Kennedy Hodgman, senior pitcher and outfielder Mehsa Krause, Izzy Radel, senior outfielder Danika Ringhofer, and Taya Selbrade.
The Huskies were awarded the gold award for having a G.P.A. of 3.91 amongst the team.
