Owatonna’s Legion Post 77 baseball team dominated Byron’s Legion team on Sunday, shutting out Byron in five innings. Owatonna’s VFW team did the same thing to Byron’s VFW team on Monday.

The Owatonna VFW 9 and 10 combined team faced off against Byron at home on Monday night. After putting up nine runs in the first two innings, Owatonna won the game in five innings with a score of 11-0.

Jace Feuring was the starting pitcher for Owatonna, pitching the entirety of the game and completing a no hitter. Feuring showcased his dominance early as he had a 1-2-3 inning and striking out the side.

The bottom of the first for Owatonna’s offense started off with a flyout to foul territory, but a walk by third baseman Aedan Tackman started off a four-run rally in the inning.

In Isaiah Farwell’s at-bat, Tackman stole second for Owatonna’s first steal in the inning. They went on to have six steals in the first inning alone.

Aggressive base running from Owatonna allowed Byron to make some bad throws in the infield, with Owatonna able to score on a wild throw to second on a steal attempt to give them an early 1-0 lead. Jace Ulrich then hit a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Farwell to give Owatonna a 2-0 lead.

Byron committed a couple errors to keep Owatonna batting in the inning with two outs. A single by Ben Sackett scored a run and a steal home by Bentley Arvig made the score 4-0 with still two outs in the inning. Owatonna batted around in the inning, with lead-off hitter Will Radel batting twice in the inning.

Owatonna’s offense had another stellar inning in the bottom of the second, scoring five more runs. Tackman and Farwell both had singles to start the inning and Jace Ulrich got on base by getting hit by a pitch.

Bentley Arvig hit a one-out single, scoring Tackman and Farwell and a double steal in the next-at-bat put runners in scoring position once again for Owatonna. Layton Schnorenberg, who was the courtesy runner for Jace Ulrich, scored on a wild pitch in Ben Sackett’s at-bat before he walked.

With runners on first and second, Christian Flores hit a towering shot off the left field wall for a double, scoring two more runs to have Owatonna lead 9-0.

The only inning Feuring had some trouble pitching was in the top of the third as he walked the first batter and hit the second batter to have runners on first and second with no outs. Feuring then settling in and struck out the next two batters. A wild pitch advanced the runners to second and third, but a flyout to Feuring ended the inning.

The bottom of the third was the only inning Owatonna was unable to score in, as they scored two runs in the fourth off of a single by Emilio Garza. Feuring came into pitch the top of the fifth for Owatonna, with them leading 11-0 over Byron.

With Owatonna having more then ten runs going into the fifth inning, Feuring had a chance to end the game early by keeping Byron to less than two runs due to the mercy rule. He did just that as he closed out the game with a strikeout and completed the five-inning no-hitter to have the Owatonna VFW team end their regular season on a high-note.

The playoffs for Owatonna start this weekend, as their roster will consist of 20 players from both the VFW 9 and the VFW 10 teams.
