The Owatonna Aces traveled to Red Wing this past weekend hoping to continue their playoff run after starting it with a 9-2 loss against the Austin Greyhounds on the road Wednesday night.

In order for them to stay alive in the playoff race, they had to win three straight games during the weekend, starting with a matchup against the Dodge County Diamondbacks on Saturday. The Aces recently lost to the Diamondbacks in a makeup game on Saturday July 20 by a score of 24-14.

The Aces fared better against the Diamondbacks than they did with the Greyhounds in what was a high-scoring battle, just like the game that took place a week before.

But the Diamondbacks were able to get the victory and move on in the playoffs, beating the Aces 13-12. Dodge County then beat the Rochester Roadrunners on Sunday, but lost to the Cannon Falls Bears.

The Bears, along with the Austin Greyhounds and the Pine Island Islanders, will play next weekend in the finals bracket against teams in the league who had byes and did not compete in the preliminary bracket. The finals bracket will determine the two Twin Rivers League teams that get to participate in the state tournament later in the month.

As for Owatonna, the Aces end their up and down season and look towards next season. The Aces will have multiple young players next season as their roster keeps getting younger and younger every season as new Owatonna graduates get more playing time on the team.

Even though the Aces are out of the playoffs, Chuck Fuller Field will be the host of the final five games in the Twin Rivers League finals bracket taking place on Friday, Aug. 9 and Saturday, Aug. 10.
