The regular season is winding down and the Owatonna girls lacrosse team is one step closer to back-to-back Big 9 Conference titles, as the Huskies shut out Rochester John Marshall in a 13-0 victory on Federated Field Monday night.

Owatonna’s only real hiccup in its schedule was a one-goal loss to Century to open up the season, but the Huskies have been running the show in the Big 9 since that loss.

They’ve rattled off six straight wins in Big 9 matchups, which includes wins over Mankato and Rochester Mayo teams that trail behind them in the standings, as well as a 5-2 revenge victory over Century. Overall, the Huskies are 7-2 with a non-conference win over Sartell/Sauk Rapids and a loss to Lakeville North.

The usual scoring trio of senior attacker Madie McGinn, junior midfielder Lauren Busho and sophomore Addy Schroht fueled Owatonna’s 13-goal production as sophomore goalie Nora Marshall held things down for her second shutout of the season.

McGinn, Busho and Schroht helped Owatonna jump out to an early 6-0 lead through the start of the second quarter. All three scored a pair of goals in the exact order listed.

Halle Oldefendt found McGinn out front of the net for the game’s first goal early in the first quarter. Busho and Schroht soon followed by burying their respective shots after lining up on the eight-meter arc following a whistle.

McGinn and Busho both scored their second goals of the night to close out a five-goal quarter for the Huskies. Schroht’s second goal for the 6-0 lead came with around five minutes left in the half.

To make things even sweeter, the Huskies closed out the half with a 7-0 lead after seventh grader Amelia Moran scored her first career varsity goal.

Goal scoring from a Moran isn’t uncommon for the Huskies as Amelia’s older sister, Anni, finished her illustrious career with Owatonna as the girls’ record holder for most career points last season and just finished a 24-goal freshman season at Quincy University.

The momentum from Owatonna’s seven-goal first half continued into the second half. Busho completed her hat trick and junior Ellery Blacker got on the score sheet to make it a 9-0 lead after the third quarter.

Busho opened the fourth quarter by pushing Owatonna’s to double digits with some style after scoring behind-the-back for her fourth goal of the night. McGinn was able to complete her hat trick later in the game, junior Kylee Eaton got on the score sheet and Amelia Moran netted her second career varsity goal to lead the Huskies to their 13-0 lead.

The Huskies are in the home stretch of their season with three of their final four games set to be played at Federated Field. They’ll look to sweep regular season series with Northfield on Thursday and host a nonconference game with Apple Valley on Saturday.
