The Owatonna Huskies girls lacrosse team is heating up, as the season marches on to a close. The Huskies took on the Northfield Raiders and the Apple Valley Eagles at home on Thursday night and Saturday morning after a shutout against Rochester JM on Monday, May 13.

The Raiders were no match for the Huskies, who won 16-2.

Sophomore attacker Addy Schroht had a big game as she scored four goals along with two assists. Junior attacker Ellery Blacker and senior attacker Madie McGinn scored two goals each in the matchup, with eight other players scoring for the Huskies for a total of 11 players scoring.

The Huskies then faced the Apple Valley Eagles on Saturday morning after a day off on Friday. The Huskies got off to a great start with goals from junior midfielder Lauren Busho and McGinn to give the Huskies a 2-0 lead halfway through the first quarter.

Within just over two minutes left in the quarter, there were a total of four goals. Eagles midfielders Brooke Stiele and Alexandra Wiegel both scored to tie the game 2-2, with Wiegel scored with 57 seconds left in the quarter, but Blacker scored with 26 seconds remaining and McGinn scored her second goal with just three seconds left.

Halfway through the second quarter, midfielder Kamerin Turnquist of the Eagles scored to cut the Huskies lead to just one. The Huskies then took a 5-3 lead just over a minute after Turnquist’s goal by a penalty shot by Addy Schroht.

The Huskies had a 5-3 lead at halftime, and they did not slow down in the third quarter. Blacker scored 2 more times for a hat trick while eighth grader midfielder Alexis Noble and freshman attacker Sawyer Born each scored a goal within two minutes remaining in the quarter.

Huskies sophomore goalie Nora Marshall shutout the Eagles in the second half, recording 9 saves on 12 shots in the game. Blacker scored one more time for her fourth goal of the game with 10 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. That was the last goal of the game as the Huskies won 10-3.

Schroht and Blacker lead the team in assists with two each, while Blacker lead the team with her four goals. The matchup against the Eagles was the last of a three-game home stretch, with the Huskies outscoring their opponents 39-5 in those games.

The Huskies are currently first in the Big 9 standings as they are 9-2 overall, and 7-1 in conference play. Rochester Century is two games behind them with a 5-3 record in conference play. Century is Owatonna’s only Big 9 loss this season as Century won 11-10 in the season opener.

Owatonna will play their final two games this week as they face off against Rochester Mayo on the road on Monday and play against Mankato at home on Thursday. Both games start at 7:15.
