After a tight comeback win against Northfield on Thursday night, the Owatonna boys lacrosse team had an easier time against the Simley Spartans in their matchup against them on Saturday afternoon.

The Huskies had a 10-0 lead against the Spartans at halftime and it wasn’t until late in the third quarter that the Spartans were on the board. The Huskies dominated the entire game and won 18-1, thanks to a record-setting day by senior attacker Jack Strom.

The Huskies took a commanding lead in the first quarter after scoring 6 unanswered points. Sophomores Trey Hiatt and Wyatt Macy scored 2 goals each.

The second quarter was all about Strom though as he recorded three goals. His first goal came halfway through the quarter for his 95th career goal. That tied him for the most goals by a Husky in a career.

Not even a minute after his record-tying goal, Strom scored again to become the all-time leading scorer in school history. He then scored with three minutes remaining in the half to add one more goal for good measure.

Hiatt scored his third goal of the afternoon for a hat trick to make the Huskies lead 10-0 going into halftime.

The Huskies did not slow down entering the second half as they scored two more times within the first three minutes of the third quarter. The second goal of the half was scored by freshman Kade Hullopeter, his first career varsity goal.

Due to the game being a blowout, the remainder of the match was under running time starting whent here was 6:30 left in the third quarter. The Huskies scored 15 points before the Spartans scored one with under two minutes remaining in the third quarter.

The Huskies scored three more times in the final quarter to win 18-1. Hullopeter scored his second goal of the day to make it 19-0 and Strom hit another career milestone as he scored his 100th career varsity goal to close out the game.

The matchup against Simley was the final home game for the Huskies, as they close out the regular season with road games against Sartell/Sauk Rapids on Monday night and Mankato on Thursday night.

The Huskies are currently on a six-game winning streak after starting the season 0-5. They are 6-5 overall and on top of the Big 9 conference with a 4-1 conference play record.
