The 2024 soccer season for the Owatonna boys team is already more than halfway complete.

Sitting at 2-3-3 before Tuesday’s home matchup against Rochester Century, the Huskies have been in every game and have had a chance to win every one. Owatonna competed in another tight matchup against Century Tuesday, as they picked up their fourth tie of the season.

The Rochester Century Panthers scored the first goal of the game at the 36 minute mark, as they scored on a header off of a corner kick to take a 1-0 lead.

Both teams defenses were lights out for the remaining of the first period though, as no team scored a goal with the two teams heading into halftime with the score being 1-0. The Huskies were able to get just one shot off while the Panthers had 5 shots.

The defensive battle between the two teams continued into the second period, as it remained 1-0 till the second half of the second period. Century added to their lead with a goal and the Huskies saw themselves down 2-0 with 17 minutes remaining in regulation.

But just like they have done multiple times this season, the Huskies came back and scored to keep themselves in the game. Andrew Beaver scored a goal a minute after the Panthers’ second goal and Beaver scored again six minutes later to tie the game up at two.

Both teams were unable to score a winning goal and the game resulted in a tie. This puts the Panthers just above the Huskies in the Big 9 standings in 4th place, with the Panthers having a record 3-0-2 in conference play while the Huskies having a record of 2-0-3 in conference play and being 5th in the conference.

This marks the fourth tie for the Huskies this season, already doubling their amount from last year when they had 2 the entire season. They will look to pick up their first win in over a week as they travel to Rochester to take on John Marshall on Thursday. This starts a three-game road stretch with their next home game being next Tuesday, Sept. 24 against Albert Lea. The game against the Tigers will be their only game at the new high school football field this season.
