Weather stopped the Owatonna boys soccer team from finishing its match against Rochester John Marshall on the road Thursday, Sept. 19, but it finished the game Saturday in Rochester, resuming with 10 seconds left in the first period.

The Huskies were down 1-0 Sept. 19 before the game had to be delayed, and the Rockets were able to add to their lead Saturday in the continuation of the game, winning over the Huskies 3-1.

The Huskies were 2-3-4 at the time of the match against the Rockets on Sept. 19, as the game was a crucial matchup as the Rockets are one of the top teams in the Big 9 conference.

The Rockets were able to score a goal in the game before the weather had to force the game to be delayed and resume at another time. The makeup date was scheduled to Saturday, Sept. 28 as the Huskies returned to Rochester John Marshall to finish the game.

The Huskies then entered the continuation of the game on Saturday with a record of 4-5-4 and a 4-1-3 record against Big 9 teams. The Huskies were just coming off a 1-0 road loss against Northfield on Thursday night.

With Saturday’s contest starting with 10 minutes left in the first period, both teams were unable to score before halftime as the Rockets went into the break with a 1-0 lead over the Huskies.

The Rockets scored two goals in the second period to take a 3-0 lead before Owatonna got on the scoreboard with 23 minutes left in the game on a goal by Gavin Burmeister off of a corner kick by Lukas Vargas.

The second half of the second period was scoreless for both teams, as the Rockets held on to their 3-1 lead for the win. That puts Owatonna in fifth place in the Big 9 Conference with just two regular season games remaining. They will be on the road on Tuesday with a match against Faribault and will have their last home game of the regular season on Thursday night against Rochester Mayo.
