Huskies win, finish season with 9-game undefeated streak

Just one early-season loss to Winona prevented the Owatonna girls soccer team from going undefeated in conference play this year.

The Huskies wrapped up their regular season Thursday night with a win against the Rochester Mayo Spartans on the road. The Huskies are currently tied atop the Big 9 conference standings with Winona, as both teams have a 9-1-1 conference record and 28 points in the standings.

The score was tied at halftime on Thursday night against the Huskies and Spartans, with Kennedy Schammel recording the goal for Owatonna. Schammel scored a gain in the second half to give the Huskies a 2-1 lead that lasted till the end of the second period.

The win marks the ninth straight game the Huskies have not lost, as they have won seven games and had two draws during that span. The Huskies defense has been stellar, with them only giving up two goals in those nine games.

The Huskies will start their section playoff run on Tuesday at home. The time and opponent is yet to be determined.
