After a sweep on the road against Rochester John Marshall on Tuesday, Oct. 1, the Owatonna girls volleyball team hosted the Albert Lea Tigers Thursday, Oct. 3, for a Big 9 Conference game.

The Tigers were no match for the Huskies as Owatonna defeated Albert Lea with ease 3-0. The Huskies also competed at a tournament over the weekend in Burnsville, going 2-3 at the event.

The Huskies came right out of the gate on a hot streak, scoring eight straight points to take a 9-1 lead. The Tigers came back to cut the margin to just three with the Huskies holding a 13-10 lead, but that was the closest the Tigers got to the Huskies in the set as Owatonna won 25-18.

The second set did not go any better for the Tigers, as they could not find an answer for the Huskies. Leading 24-15, the Tigers got a point to make it 24-16, but junior Kendra Bogen earned a kill to end the second set.

The Huskies fell behind 2-0 in the third set but quickly regained themselves and scored four straight points to take a 4-2 lead. They ended up leading throughout the rest of the match, winning the third set 25-14 and sweeping the Tigers 3-0.

The Huskies went right back to work during their homecoming week as they traveled to Burnsville for the Twin Cities Challenge Friday and Saturday.

The Huskies played two games on Friday, winning both of them to extend their winning streak to four games. But Saturday was not their day as they played in three games and lost all of them, going 2-3 at the tournament.

The event over the weekend did not affect their conference standings however, as they are still at 5-1 in Big 9 Conference play, which has them sitting in fourth place. Owatonna plays two Big 9 teams this week on the road with them facing Northfield on Tuesday and Faribault on Thursday.
