Owensboro-based progressive bluegrass band The Lowland Ramblers — made up of Blythe Dahlem, from left, Alex Abend, Chris Abell and Sam Sanford — will compete as one of the four acts in the “Battle of the Strings” contest on Saturday at the The Fox Den: Billiards, Bites & Brews in Louisville in an effort to win an opening slot at the Bourbon & Beyond festival at the Highland Festival Grounds at the Kentucky Exposition Center in September. It was at end of May to the beginning of June 2023 when local musicians Chris Abell, Alex Abend and Blythe Dahlem officially started up the progressive bluegrass outfit The Lowland Ramblers following an impromptu jam during an open mic night at Brasher’s Lil’ Nashville after numerous run-ins at the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame & Museum.

Fast forward over one year later and adding Sam Sanford to the lineup on the banjo just last month, the now four-piece is competing for a spot to play at Bourbon & Beyond, coined as the “world’s largest Bourbon and music festival,” in September at the Highland Festival Grounds at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville.
