HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – A man charged with first degree manslaughter after three people were shot and killed in Owensboro in 2019 has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Cylar Shemwell was charged in connection to the shooting deaths of Robert Smith Jr., Jay Michael Sowders and Christopher Carie. Authorities say Shemwell and Arnett Baines shot and killed the three people on Audubon Drive.

Shemwell faced the death penalty, but he entered a plea deal with approval from representatives from each family. He must serve at least 85 percent of his sentence before being eligible for parole.
