OWENSBORO, Ky. (WEHT) — Daviess County Public Schools is addressing how mental health impacts the education community. The Mental Health Summit: Umbrella Project starts tomorrow at the Owensboro Convention Center.

Owensboro Health is sponsoring their keynote speaker through a $25,000 grant.

Dr. Amy Shutt, a former Daviess County Schools’ administrator, says around 600 people can choose between several break out sessions.

Topics include equity, behavior interventions and academic interventions.

Dr. Shutt says it all started when they recognized mental health was becoming a greater barrier for learning.

“We saw that as a way for us to gather the funds to try something different for our people…to give them some choice in what they were learning. We like to offer a lot of different topics so that people can choose what they feel like they need to grow in,” says Dr. Shutts.

Dr. Shutt says although she’s retired, she loves working on this passion project.

Sessions begin Tuesday morning at 8 a.m.
