Man convicted in 1979 cold case killing in Maryland
A Washington, D.C., man has been convicted of first-degree murder and rape in a case that had gone unsolved for decades. In 1979, Vickie Lynn Belk was kidnapped, sexually assaulted and shot to death. Belk, a 28-year-old mother, worked in D.C. and was a resident of Suitland, but her body was discovered miles away in the area of Metropolitan Church Road and Route 227 in Charles County, the sheriff's office said.

OXON HILL, Md. – The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit identified and charged two men in connection to a fatal shooting in Oxon Hill. The suspects are 33-year-old Maverick Miller of Oxon Hill and 31-year-old Jujuan Hunter of Clinton. They are charged with the murder of 45-year-old Tyrone Jones of Washington, DC.

DC man sentenced to 20 years for deadly 2023 July 4 shooting in Northeast
A D.C. man was sentenced to 20 years in prison Friday for his role in a Fourth of July shooting that left another man dead in Northeast last year. In a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office in D.C., prosecutors said D.C. resident Brandon Smith, 38, pleaded guilty on Feb. 4 to second-degree murder while armed in connection with the death of 43-year-old Charles Stanton, also of D.C.

New listings surge after a slow week. The week ending July 14 had 6,421 new listings come onto the market, a 36.0% surge from the holiday week. The number of new listings is 11.6% greater than the same week last year. Supply has generally been increasing since the beginning of the year, though inventory is still low in many local markets.
