It will be more than a month before a suspect may appear in a Maine courthouse for the alleged beating death of a young child who was found in a car at the Thomaston Walmart in late May.

Aziayh Scott, 23, of Owls Head, is currently incarcerated in Louisiana as he awaits an Aug. 4 court hearing on whether he’ll be extradited to Maine, according to The Courier-Gazette . He has been charged with manslaughter in Maine in connection with the death of the 22-month-old.

On May 29, the child, Quayshawn Wilson, was found unresponsive in a Walmart parking lot. He was taken to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport, where he was pronounced dead. The Maine Office of Chief Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy the next day and ruled the cause of death was blunt force trauma and manner of death was homicide.

Scott had recently moved to Owls Head with his girlfriend and her child. After Quayshawn’s death, the couple left for Louisiana, where Scott is originally from. He was arrested on June 5 in New Orleans.

Scott is also awaiting a July 30 hearing on a separate robbery charge in Louisiana, the Gazette reported.
