An Oxford woman faces a felony charge for allegedly stealing from a local business.

According to the Oxford Police Department, on May 11, officers responded to a business in the 200 block of North Lamar Boulevard to take a shoplifting report.

It was discovered a felonious amount of merchandise had been stolen. Shoplifting becomes a felony when the stolen merchandise’s worth exceeds $1,000.

After an investigation, Karen Borden, 51, of Oxford, was arrested and charged with felony shoplifting.

Borden was taken before a Municipal Court judge for her initial bond hearing and was issued a $5,000 bond.
