OXFORD — The 2024 MLB Draft is here, and it will help shape the Ole Miss baseball roster in 2025 and potentially beyond.
As usual, the Rebels have a handful of talented signees who could be taken in the early rounds when the draft kicks off at Cowtown Coliseum in Fort Worth, Texas. Among those names, the most important to monitor is outfielder Slade Caldwell, who is ranked as the No. 27 prospect in this year's draft by MLB.com.
Any high school player selected will be left to choose between signing with the MLB organization that drafted them or coming to Ole Miss. The same is true for current Ole Miss players who retain collegiate eligibility.
Hunter Elliott fits that category, and his future is set to be decided in the coming days. Elliott underwent Tommy John Surgery in 2023 and has pitched just six innings in the past two years. He was outstanding in 2022 as a true freshman.

Ole Miss baseball players selected in the 2024 MLB Draft
Caldwell, a dynamic outfielder with plus speed, was selected near the end of the first round on Sunday. With a slot value of nearly $3.1 million, he'd likely have to turn down a hefty signing bonus to make it to Oxford.
Ross is the first 2024 Rebel to be picked, going in the ninth round to the Nationals. The senior batted .280 with a .930 OPS and a team-high 55 walks.
Lege was arguably Ole Miss' most productive batter until an injury ended his season prematurely. Rebounding from a difficult 2023, he hit .323 with a 1.069 OPS and 13 home runs in 2024.
On Monday, Spencer posted on Instagram that he intends to play for Ole Miss next season. On Tuesday, the Athletics made him their 16th-round selection. Whether he signs will be something to monitor in the coming days. Spencer pitched to a 6.16 ERA last season as the Rebels' closer.
Rivas missed the 2024 season due to Tommy John Surgery. The lefty posted a 6.35 ERA in 2023.
Like Rivas, Elliott did not pitch last season after undergoing Tommy John Surgery. He has pitched six total innings since his freshman season, when he was outstanding and helped the Rebels to a national title.
