Homecoming, potluck at Black Jack Sunday

    Mt. Olivet News
Oh! This is my time of the night to write. Most of the world is asleep. No one to ring the
doorbell, no phone calls, no emails, and thank God Facebook is empty. I made a pledge
when I got on Facebook, not to let it consume me. I can reminisce about the week,
    about life in general.
Having lived 87 years, memories drift back and flood your soul. I cannot believe that I
have taught music over 67 years. I had the opportunity to touch each life. There is more
to teaching piano than telling 10 little fingers where to go on the keys.
Every lesson is an opportunity to witness to them. Are you kind to them? Do you listen
to them? Do you find something to praise them about? I do hope that I did that, because
you don’t get a chance to do over every student who became a virtuoso.
It was not intended. If not, we would not have doctors, dentists or even school teachers
and preachers. I think everyone of the hundreds of students that pass through my
doors, will tell you that I was someone who loved them and really cared about them.
School is starting next week. Mt. Olivet will have a school supply give-away, Sunday
July 28. I saw that the supply table was set up in a Sunday school room. I am always
Impressed at how Mt. Olivet never fails to come through on projects to help the
    community.
Matthew 25 Ministry is still seeking gallon plastic bags. If you’re not certain why this
organization named it Matthew 25? Get your Bible. Mt. Olivet Methodist church choir
and congregation is still honoring the month of July. She is the blind songwriter who
wrote over 8000 hymns, she is known as the “Queen of Gospel Music”. The message
becomes real is you know something about the writer.
Mt. Olivet once again had a Saturday night supper. It was a fish fry and all the things
that go with fish. Phil Tidwell served his famous ice cream. He of course made it with his
ice cream making machine. As I had promised him, I thought he deserved some
publicity for his ingenuity in this invention.
The Panolian, sent Ian Sparks to do a video for the Panolian website. We will also have
an article in the Panolian sometime soon. As always, the crowd was large. In addition to
the abundance of food, the fellowship was wonderful. Ian in addition to working for the

Oxford Eagle is a Senior at Ole Miss and a pitcher on the Ole Miss baseball team. He
got some wonderful pictures in addition to enjoying the food and fellowship right along
    with everyone.
Black Jack Presbyterian Church will have their traditional Homecoming on Sunday, July
    28. After the service there will be a potluck meal. Revival will start July 29-31 with ice
cream social on Wed. evening. Black Jack may be the oldest church still having regular
services. It was organized in 1826. Mt. Olivet was organized some 12 years later. In
    1838.
Thanks for all the T-Cake recipes. But, sadly there not Miss Jessies. Send More.
