1,700 Mercury Marine employees affected by temporary layoffs
Roughly 1,700 workers will be hit by temporary layoffs at Mercury Marine in Fond du Lac, as the company responds to declining sales. The layoffs come a little more than a month after Mercury Marine, a boat engine manufacturer, announced plans to cut 300 positions in June and July. At the time, the company said the layoffs would be accompanied by “adjustments to overall operations.”

As expected, scattered storms dropped into northern Wisconsin from Upper Michigan earlier Saturday afternoon. No severe weather is expected but there could be some locally heavy rainfall and small hail. Storms should begin to fade after sunset. Lows tonight could be as cool as the mid 50s in the Northwoods, but low/mid 60s are expected farther south. Sunday begins dry, but more spotty afternoon storms could develop. The best chance of a storm on Sunday looks to be west and southwest of Green Bay during the afternoon & evening. Highs should be near 80 degrees.
