NEW YORK (PIX11) — The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) revealed new schedules for the Long Island Rail Road on Monday, which will go into effect on Sept. 3.

For the first time ever, the MTA will double the number of LIRR trains that run from Oyster Bay directly to Penn Station in the mornings. The agency also said it would add trains to the Atlantic Terminal for those morning riders at the Valley Stream, Rosedale, Laurelton and Locust Manor stations.

“The LIRR continues to focus on providing the best customer experience every day as we bring thousands of Long Islanders to work, school and local entertainment,” said LIRR President Rob Free. “By monitoring customer riding patterns and acting on the feedback that they provide, the LIRR has created new timetables with the focus on safety, reliability and the customer experience.”

The addition was announced as reports emerged that the MTA is considering canceling express bus routes due to congestion pricing delays.

The MTA said the full schedule updates will be available in their app and on their website by mid-August, but the most significant changes can be found here .
