Tyrese Haliburton is currently a member of the Indiana Pacers in the National Basketball Association after previously being a first round draft pick by the Sacramento Kings in 2020. During the NBA offseason this year, he was in Paris, France as a member of the United States men's national basketball team at the Olympics. The trip was a successful one.

Team USA won a fifth consecutive gold medal in men's basketball, prevailing over host country France in the championship game after a fourth quarter three-point shot surge by Stephen Curry. Haliburton did not get much playing time during the tournament - something that he poked fun at himself about on social media - but he did appear in a number of games during the course of the 2024 Summer Olympics. His time with this year's squad was also expected to help give him experience in preparation for a larger role with Team USA in the future.

Haliburton is a native of Oshkosh, Wisconsin and played for Oshkosh North High School. In 2018, he helped the school's boys' basketball team win a state championship and was named the Wisconsin Gatorade Player of the Year.

He was not the only member of the men's basketball squad for Team USA with strong ties to Wisconsin at this year's Olympics. The roster of players also featured former Milwaukee Bucks star Jrue Holiday, while another ex-Buck in Tyronn Lue was a member of the coaching staff.

Haliburton played at the collegiate level at Iowa State University. He was a member of the Iowa State Cylcones team that won the 2019 Big 12 Conference Tournament Championship and was picked for the all-conference team the following year.

In the NBA, Haliburton has been an All-Star selection twice. Last season, he led the league in assists.

Haliburton's cousin, Jalen Suggs, is also presently an NBA player with Orlando. Another cousin, Eddie Jones, was a longtime player in the league with five teams, along the way being chosen as an All-Star three times and leading the NBA in steals during the 1999-2000 season.
