Green Bay Packers Urged To Cut Former First-Round Draft Pick

The Green Bay Packers must begin preparing to trim their roster down to 53 players for Week 1 of the regular season, so they will have some tough decisions ahead of them.

Every team generally makes a surprising cut or two, and the Packers will likely be no exception.

Bleacher Report’s David Kenyon is anticipating that Green Bay will release a fairly big name along its offensive line, predicting that the Packers will part ways with offensive tackle Andre Dillard.

“Green Bay’s depth on the offensive line is taking shape, though,” Kenyon wrote. “Second-year blocker Kadeem Telfort and rookie Travis Glover may have done enough to overtake Andre Dillard, who is searching for a stable year after a frustrating 2023 with Tennessee.”

Green Bay signed Dillard for some extra depth in the trenches after cutting long-time left tackle David Bakhtiari earlier this offseason. Some felt he would have a chance to compete for a starting job, but he may end up on the unemployment line instead.

Dillard, who played his collegiate football at Washington State, was originally selected by the Philadelphia Eagles with the 22nd overall pick of the 2019 NFL Draft.

He never got much of a chance with the Eagles, starting just nine games over three seasons. His most productive year came in 2020, when he played in 35 percent of Philadelphia’s offensive snaps.

Following a disappointing three-year run in Philly, Dillard signed with the Tennessee Titans, where he played in 16 contests and made 10 starts last season. He wasn’t able to establish himself as a part of the Titans’ future, so Tennessee released him back in March.

The Packers signed the 28-year-old in April, but he may not even get the opportunity to play a single regular-season snap in the tundra.

We’ll see if Green Bay ultimately ends up sending Dillard packing.

Meanwhile, the Packers themselves are looking to build on what was a surprising campaign last year, when they went 9-8 and upset the Dallas Cowboys in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs.

The Green Bay Packers are a trendy pick to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl this coming season.
