Green Bay Packers Urged To Add Super Bowl Winning Defender

The Green Bay Packers could certainly use some cornerback depth behind Jaire Alexander and Eric Stokes, but they were unable to find any legitimate options through free agency or the NFL Draft.

The good news is that there is still plenty of time for the Packers to address the issue before the start of the regular season, and Bleacher Report’s NFL Scouting Department sees a potential solution for the club: Jalen Mills.

Mills brings considerable versatility to the table, as he has played both cornerback and safety throughout his NFL career. However, the veteran was recently released by the New York Giants, which could be a sign that his best days are long behind him.

Still, it couldn’t hurt the Packers to add him to see if he has anything left.

Just last year, Mills played in every game with the New England Patriots, registering 45 tackles and a forced fumble.

The 30-year-old, who played his collegiate football at LSU, was originally selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the seventh round of the 2016 NFL Draft.

Mills spent the first five years of his career with the Eagles and helped the team win a Super Bowl championship during his sophomore campaign. That also happened to be the most productive season of his career, as he racked up 64 tackles, three interceptions, 14 passes defended and a defensive touchdown in 15 contests.

Following his stay in Philadelphia, Mills joined the Patriots in 2021, where he resided for three seasons.

Green Bay definitely addressed the safety position in the offseason, landing the best safety on the free-agent market in Xavier McKinney. It also selected Javon Bullard in the second round of the draft.

However, the Packers could still use some help on the edges, especially given Alexander’s penchant for missing time and the fact that Stokes himself has played in a grand total of 12 games over the last couple of seasons.

Mills definitely isn’t the sexiest option, but he at least brings some valuable veteran experience. Plus, at this stage of the offseason, there aren’t many interesting guys available to begin with.

The Green Bay Packers could take a look at fellow cornerbacks like Xavien Howard and Adoree’ Jackson, but again, Mills provides some extra versatility in the defensive backfield.
