Johnny Gaudreau’s widow, Meredith, announces pregnancy with 3rd child at NHL star’s funeral: ‘A total surprise’

Johnny Gaudreau’s widow, Meredith Gaudreau, announced during the NHL star’s funeral Monday that she is pregnant with their third child.

Johnny and his brother, Matthew Gaudreau, were killed by a suspected drunk driver while riding their bikes in their native Salem County, NJ, on Aug. 29. They were 31 and 29, respectively.

Matthew’s widow, Madeline Gaudreau, is also pregnant ; she is expecting their first child.

“We’re actually a family of five,” Meredith revealed during her eulogy for Johnny.

“I’m in my ninth week of pregnancy with our third baby. A total surprise, but again, John was beaming and so excited.”

Meredith admitted she “was so nervous” to tell her husband because the pregnancy was seemingly unplanned.

“But his reaction was just immediately kissing me and hugging me, even though I was driving the car,” she shared, going on to say that “after the initial excitement sank in,” he would look at her and say, “‘You’re nuts, you know that? Three kids?’

“Noa, our oldest, hasn’t even turned 2 yet,” she told those in attendance at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Media, Penn.

Their daughter, Noa, turns 2 later this month, while their son, Johnny Jr., is just shy of 7 months old.

“In less than three years of marriage, we’ve created a family of five,” Meredith, who married Johnny in September 2021, continued. “It doesn’t even sound possible, but I look at it as the ultimate blessing. How lucky am I to be the mother of John’s three babies, our last one being a blessing and so special despite these difficult circumstances?”

Speaking directly to her “babies,” Meredith added, “Daddy loves you all so much, and you have the best daddy in the world.”

Johnny was an All-Star for the Calgary Flames and Columbus Blue Jackets, while Matthew played collegiate hockey alongside him at Boston College.

They died on the eve of their sister Katie Gaudreau’s wedding, which was canceled upon the tragedy.
