In the clip, Kidman, 57, and Hayek, 58, were seen seemingly sharing a tense moment at the Balenciaga show in front of a scrum of photographers on Sept. 30. At the time, the ladies appeared alongside Katy Perry, who was off to the side when the allegedly icy interaction took place.
Per Freeman, the “Big Little Lies” star then responded, “Hey, I’m fine, I’m good. There, it’s enough, it’s OK.”
Hayek then interjected, beginning to say, “We have to…,” before putting her hand on Perry’s shoulder.
Freeman told Page Six that Hayek then said, “That’s fine, that’s fine,” and directed 39-year-old Perry — who was wearing sunglasses — to look at the photographers.
While many fans on social media are convinced that the interaction was “tense,” others are arguing that perhaps the ladies were just stressed out over the fact that they were surrounded by paparazzi and having so many cameras in their face.
It appears Kidman and Hayek were interacting just fine throughout other parts of the evening, per other various clips that have been circulating on X.
One X user pointed out that perhaps Kidman was “just not feeling the moment and that’s OK,” noting that the fashion event marked the actress’ first public appearance since her mother’s sudden death last month.
Kidman previously took to Instagram to share photos following her mother’s heartbreaking passing.
“My sister and I along with our family want to thank you for the outpouring of love and kindness we have felt this week. Every message we have received from those who loved and admired our Mother has meant more to us than we will ever be able to express,” she wrote at the time.
“Thank you from our whole family for respecting our privacy as we take care of each other.”
