Serious Injury Reported in Motorboat Incident on Chautauqua Lake
One person was hospitalized with serious but non-life threatening injuries after getting struck by a motorboat while in the south basin of Chautauqua Lake on Saturday. The incident was called in shortly after 1:45 PM, with multiple agencies responding to the scene. The Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office says 31-year-old Jamal Jaber of Lake Worth, Florida was beginning to tube behind a vessel operated by 30-year-old Anthony Pineda of Lakewood. Deputies say Jaber jumped overboard from the boat's swim platform without telling Pineda. Jaber struck the boat's propeller with his left leg, resulted in severe lacerations to his lower leg, knee and thigh. Jaber was transported by STAT MedEvac to the Hamot Medical Center in Erie. No charges were filed. Other agencies on scene included Lakewood Fire, Lakewood-Busti Police, Chautauqua County Emergency Services and EMS, Celoron Fire and Bemus Point Fire.
